Job Summary
The carpenter is responsible for building, installing and repairing multiple residential projects including, but not limited to, cabinetry, custom built-ins, shelving, and custom furniture.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate has some knowledge or experience with trim carpentry, cabinet building/with or without a CNC, and or cabinet installation.
Responsibilities
· Builds projects accurately and within time and budget specifications, in accordance with drawings and other direction provided
· Dismantle, remove and dispose of designated items at a client site, as directed by the project contract and the master carpenter
· Uses saws, power tools, sanders, hand tools, adhesives, and other tools and materials to complete the project
· Accurately estimates equipment, tool and material requirements for each project
· Operates all necessary tools safely to complete a job
· Works independently at the employer’s shop to construct projects
· Works independently onsite in client’s homes to build and install projects
· Monitors the use of supplies and communicates the need for additional materials in a timely manner to ensure no work stoppage occurs
· Accepts deliveries of materials and carries materials into building and stores properly
· Ensures materials are loaded and unloaded as needed for projects
· Aids the Master Carpenter in the loading and unloading of materials
· Ensures materials and vehicles are properly secured
· Ensures worksite is clean and organized
· Ensures tools and equipment are properly cleaned, stored and maintained for optimum performance and safety
· May perform painting and/or staining as needed
· Other related duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities
· Proficient with tools including table saw, miter saw, drills and nail guns
· Proficient with levels, rules, plumb bobs, framing squares and other similar equipment
· Ability to read drawings and sketches and to fully grasp requirements
· Strong math and spatial skills, including the ability to take accurate measurements and calculations
· Excellent communication skills, including active listening skills
· Strong customer service skills
· Ability to work independently and problem solve situations that arise
· Thorough understanding of the correct and safe operation of all related tools and equipment
· Ability to maintain a safe and clean environment
· Ability and willingness to use personal vehicle in employment; preferably a truck with the ability to haul a trailer
· Ability and willingness to use personal vehicle to travel within a 60 mile radius on a daily basis
· Willingness to work overtime when necessary to deliver the project on time
· Ability to prioritize, organize and accomplish projects
· Ability to inspect equipment, structures and/or materials to identify defects, errors or other issues.
Education/Experience
· High School Diploma or equivalent
· Basic experience building and installing cabinetry
· Basic experience cutting and installing crown molding and other finishing work
· Experience with a CNC machine is a plus
· Experience applying veneer is a plus
Physical Requirements
· Ability to lift and move 50 lbs on a regular basis
· Ability to safely work with sharp tools or power equipment
· Prolonged periods of standing on a concrete surface
· Ability to bend, squat, reach, stretch and move on a regular basis
· Ability to work safely while on a ladder or other elevated surface
· Visual acuity necessary to measure and assemble projects and read plans
