A few simple steps will help your project stay on schedule and run smoothly.

Prepare for Your Project

Please review and complete the steps below before your project start date.

Proper preparation is one of the most important parts of your project.

Completing the steps below helps us begin work on time, stay on schedule, and avoid unnecessary delays or additional costs.

If you’re unsure about any part of the preparation process, please reach out to projectmanagement@rfhomeco.com ahead of your start date.

Preparation by Project Type

Painting Existing Cabinetry

Drawers need to be emptied and the front half of all cabinets must be cleared. Counters need to be relatively empty in order to accommodate project staging.

Hinges & Handles: If you are selecting hardware or hinges on your own they must be purchased and provided to RF 30 days ahead of time. If not provided on time, start date may need to be changed. Handle and hinge changes must be notated in the contract as they can change the requirements for install and painting.

Appliances: Cabinet sides next to appliances are not painted unless otherwise specified in the contract. If desired, contact RF to have these sides added to your contract.

If carpentry work is being done around any appliance, the appliance may need to be removed. Client may elect to. move appliances before the start of the project, otherwise RF will remove them as necessary. RF does not reinstall appliances or electronics. Client assumes all responsibility of removal. We recommend actively checking appliances in the following days to make sure nothing has come loose. RF will exercise caution and care while moving appliances but we assume on responsibility for damages to appliances or floors due to move.

Electronics: We ask that all electronics (i.e., TVs, sound systems, etc.) be removed from the work space prior to RF arrival, if they will need to be removed to perform the project. Removal and reinstallation of tv mounts or electronics are not included in your project unless specifically listed in your contract.

Jobsite Requirements

RF staff must be able to access the road and driveway to your home. If roadwork or driveway work is scheduled concurrently, we will need to reschedule the project. Your home must be readily accessible via stairs or a landing. A ladder or another object cannot be required to get into the home. Your home must have basic utilities (power, water, HVAC). Utilities, while minimally necessary, are required for the job to be
completed and paint requires air flow between 60-75 degrees for ideal drying
and cooling.

If the above requirements cannot be meant, the project will need to be rescheduled. If rescheduling occurs within 30 days of start date, there will be a $250 change fee.

Other Work In Your Home

Many times, when we are performing a project, there is other work being done from flooring, to backsplash, and everything in between. We would like to work with you to help stage your items in a way that limits your exposure to additional costs. For example, if your cabinets are painted, and then your backsplash is removed, which causes damage to the cabinets, RF will need to come back out to repair and paint, which would be billed to you. We cannot predict what other work you may have done, and in the end it is ultimately your decision and risk with how you stage your project, but we will do our best to advise. Additionally, sometimes other contractors prevent our team from working as planned. In order to prevent any change fees or delays, please let us know if you are having any work done concurrently.

RF needs to be notified of any carpentry being performed that may affect the RF scope. We recommend discussing any and all projects/changes with RF to prevent change fees. While some modifications have no impact to the work RF is performing, others can impact material, labor, and scheduling. If you or another contractor makes cabinet modifications or adds trim work to cabinetry, all work needs to be “paint-ready.” This means all holes are filled and all wood is sanded smooth.  RF needs to be provided photos of the work 14 days in advance. If the project is not paint ready when we arrive, if the job site/scope has been altered without prior notification, or materials were used that may cause additional painting time, a $500 change fee will be assessed in addition to any labor/material assessments. This could also cause project delays.

Important Reminders

If preparation is not completed prior to your start date:

  • Your project may be delayed or rescheduled
  • Additional fees may apply

Completing these steps ahead of time helps ensure a smooth and efficient project.
